This series is designed for people who are curious about entrepreneurship but haven’t settled on a business idea. Through a set of engaging workshops, you will build clarity, confidence, and a business concept worth testing — all at your own pace.

What the Discovery Series Looks Like

The series consists of 4 to 6 workshops, each lasting 90 minutes. Every session includes table discussions and simple activities that help you think deeply without feeling overwhelmed. There’s no homework and no sales pitch at the end. Instead, you get a chance to explore your interests and skills in a relaxed setting.

Each workshop builds on the last, guiding you step-by-step toward a clearer understanding of your strengths, your community’s needs, and how you might start a small business that fits you.

Session 1: Could It Work?

The first session asks a big question: Is entrepreneurship a fit for me? Many people wonder if starting a business matches their lifestyle and goals. This workshop helps you identify your strengths, motivations, and what freedom means to you.

You’ll reflect on what drives you and what kind of work-life balance you want. For example, do you want flexible hours or a steady routine? Understanding these personal factors sets a strong foundation for what comes next.

Session 2: Where’s the Pain?

Next, the focus shifts to your community. What problems or needs exist right here in your town? This session encourages you to look around and make a shortlist of real issues that could use solutions.

Maybe local parents struggle to find affordable childcare, or there’s a lack of healthy food options nearby. By identifying these pain points, you start thinking about opportunities that matter to people around you.

Session 3: What’s Already Working?

Before reinventing the wheel, it helps to see what others have done successfully. This session explores businesses and solutions that work well elsewhere. You’ll gather inspiration and examples that you can adapt to your local context.

For instance, if a nearby town has a thriving community garden project, could something similar work in your area? Learning from others reduces risk and sparks ideas you might not have considered.

Session 4: Could I Do That?

Now it’s time to connect your skills with a potential solution. This workshop helps you think about what kind of business you could start small, using what you already know or enjoy.

For example, if you love baking and notice a lack of fresh pastries in town, could you start a weekend pop-up bakery? This session encourages practical thinking about starting points that feel doable.

Session 5: Who Would Buy It?

A business needs customers. This session focuses on defining who your target customer might be and why they would choose your product or service.

You’ll create a profile of your ideal customer and think about their needs, habits, and preferences. This clarity helps you tailor your idea and marketing in ways that connect with real people.

Session 6: Plotting a Tiny Start

The final session is about testing your idea with a small budget — between $0 and $500. You’ll develop a micro-launch plan that lets you try your concept in a low-risk way.

For example, you might run a small market stall, offer a free trial, or create a simple website to gather feedback. This step builds confidence and momentum, showing you how to take one next step toward your business.
